Molly Fairhurst Talk
Today Molly Fairhurst came n did a talk. Big big fan, was excited to hear her talk about her process.
Her talk was so interesting - some thoughts/takeaways:
- She felt her work was quite polished to a point upon leaving uni, this has evolved and loosened since
- Gaining confidence in own voice
- Inspiration in other forms away from illustration
- She always used to prefer the rough with client rough, so now she makes her finals her roughs - authenticity
- Shared studio spaces - creative environment, collaborations
- Self initiated residencies - went on holiday w her mates to Wales and just made work for the hell of it
- Was one of the Its Nice That Graduates which got her a jumpstart into commercial work
- Reflects on her practice regularly
- I love how she uses instagram - its like a scrapbook of her process and thoughts, doesn't need to just be finished final pieces.
- Stop looking sometimes, over-inspired / rush overexposure of images
